Jeffrey L. Seif was born into a German-Jewish family on 9 November 1955. He was raised in a typical American Jewish household, save the fact that he was sent off to go to school in a Yeshiva—an Orthodox Jewish training school. Though raised with a “traditional” Jewish upbringing, Jeff eventually came to a saving faith in Jesus, subsequent to which he experienced a “call” into vocational Gospel ministry.

Jeff eventually went to school to prepare for the ministerial vocation, taking studies at the Moody Bible Institute, Trinity College, the Graduate Theological Foundation and then the theological Seminary at Southern Methodist University where he took both a master’s degree and doctorate. Jeff served as a missionary with the American Board of Missions to the Jews, and has held pastorates and other ministry posts for well over twenty-five years.

In addition, Jeff serves as the church-plant pastor and senior pastor of Prince of Peace, Mansfield, Texas. Dr. Seif served as the pastoral leader at Zola Levitt Ministries, a nationally-syndicated television concern, teaching the faith’s Jewish roots and more.

As the title informs, this MJBI video-modular will briefly survey Luke and Acts, considering Jesus’ rise with that of the early Messianic Jewish faith, practice and experience. We will pay attention to how it morphed as it expanded beyond Israel’s borders and out into the larger Greco-Roman world. An introductory course, it is designed to complement other MJBI courses led by the instructor, which provided both an overview of the whole of church history and a specific look at the nascent, Messianic movement from the first through fourth centuries.

Though related, this inquiry focuses on Luke’s “cosmopolitan” telling of the life and teaching of Jesus/Yeshua, as with that of the earliest communities of His followers. With that in mind, Luke I (his Gospel) and Luke II (his telling of early church history) will be explored. Upon completion, students will be better able to understand Luke’s word and world, as well as Paul’s—the one for whom he is writing.

Pastor Geoffrey Cohen
Geoffrey Cohen was raised in the Orthodox Jewish traditions and brought up in private Jewish schools in South Africa. He was very opposed to the message of the gospel until he had a powerful encounter with the L-rd in Jerusalem in 1984. Geoffrey was so dramatically changed that, with great authority and power, he began to preach the message he had so strongly opposed. He committed to preach the gospel anywhere G-d led him, and the L-rd opened numerous doors for him. He has preached in many nations and on many continents, and seen both Jews and Gentiles come to the L-rd during his 28 years of ministry. Geoffrey has taught in Bible schools around the world and preached on television, the radio and in churches. He has a bachelor’s degree in theology, is an ordained minister and is currently serving as the Pastor of Jewish Ministries at Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas. Geoffrey is married with three children, and his whole family serves the L-rd together.
